MORE ABOUT THE CHALICE

     Hi!

I am Carlton  Jamon, of the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. My wife Julie and I have been making jewelry since 1984. I am a native of the Zuni Pueblo and Julie Marie is a Navajo from Toadlena, New Mexico. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site. If you could visit us in Zuni or Gallup, that would be even better!

Jewelry Biography

Carlton and Julie Marie Jamon's work is confirmation of their Native American heritage in the 21st century world. Their jewelry is rich with Indian meaning, but its sleek, contemporary flair and design give it universal appeal.

The Jamons, who are self-taught gold and silversmiths, have been making jewelry since 1984. They discovered their talents after college education's were finished and full-time jobs were next in order. They enjoy the freedom of the artist's life, working as the creative juices flow.

The Jamon's main focus and most popular jewelry designs are their hollow silver fetish bears. These sterling silver fetishes take the traditional Native American bear a step further: the bear still holds its inherent meaning of power and strength to provide personal protection, but is crafted in a unique, streamlined fashion to be worn as a contemporary piece of jewelry. The bears are strung on single or multi-strands of coral, black onyx, turquoise, fresh water pearls, lapis or sterling silver heishi to create necklaces and earrings. Each bear is hand-crafted: no mechanical casting is used at all.

The Jamons strive for perfection in their work: their hollow sterling silver bears show no "seams" where the pieces of silver are hand-soldered together. It is this sort of quality that they feel confident of and pride themselves on when, after approximately 15 hours of work, a piece is completed.

Carlton and Julie Marie Jamon's designs evolve from ancestral roots in Native American tradition that are molded by today. They search for fresh and innovative ways to adorn collectors with powerful Indian talismans, never losing touch with the quality that sets them apart from the rest."
